The social networking bug has already stung millions of people and businesses, and it is not an alien to the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry as well. Though we are presently living in the knowledge age, it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that we are a part of the social networking age also. This is quiet evident from the fact that huge chunk of the internet businesses along with online users are in some way or the other connected with the social networking environment.
The BPO industry has therefore embraced social networking, allowing its young workforce to step ahead and be a part of the worldwide social platform. This reason is enough to lead to the emergence of BPO Voice, a new social networking group for people having a background in the BPO sector, in the cyberspace.
Though the exclusively built group for BPO employees was introduced in the web world few months ago, it opened for membership only the previous month, and today has more than 200 members already. Amit Saxena, the creator of this latest online community, said that the idea started developing when he began to use some of the BPO communities on other networking Web sites.
Saxena expressed the more he used other networking sites, more he recognized how they could provide much more than what they were offering currently. He explained that several networking groups in Yahoo, Google, as well as Orkut, provide nothing but a space for reuniting old pals and making new ones, and actually most of what they include is either spam or recruitment drives or even some mindless games or activity.
Understanding the prospective, this ex-BPO employee understood the need to use the collective intelligence of BPO employees and build a solid platform to share their domain related know-how. Saxena, along with his group of friends, Siddhart Jindal and Ankush Wadhwa who joined the bandwagon afterward, have their job cut out.
In addition to enhancing the overall image of the BPO sector, they intend to generate the biggest online resource for BPO professionals. Also, they want to assist these specialists in sharing opportunities and knowledge among themselves on a common platform throughout the nation. Besides, the Web site even plans to take up research and studies on career and lifestyle related challenges by way of different surveys and polls.
Though the number of membership requests and hits is rising each day, the site is cautious to filter each and every request. Saxena stated that the group is pretty selective about membership and goes through every request, weeding out inappropriate member requests in order to remain consistent in content as well as membership quality.
Good news for BPO employees is also that the self-funded BPO Voice does not charge any membership fee from the members. However, it is on a look out for investors. And as soon as this gets fixed, BPO Voice could also advance a step further from just being an online community.
Moreover, BPO Voice further plans to work on the ground by arranging face-to-face meetings between the members ,as well as organize meets, seminars, career counseling sessions, road shows, etc.
Now only time will tell whether social networking works as an effective strategy for the BPO industry or not.
